A Changpa woman milks her family’s herd of goats in the early morning. The goats are then led up and out of the valley to higher grounds where they find sparse grasses to eat. A Pashmina herder will often walk up to 20 miles per day at altitudes reaching 17,000 ft. The longer that the Changpa choose to stay camped in a given area, the further the herders must travel each day to find fresh pastures.
